The Fire Trinity

When starting a fire, there are 3 things parts to the trinity that you have to remember.

  1. Ignition source: Whether it’s a lighter, magnesium rod, flint rock or bow-drill, you have to have an ignition source. The spark has to come from somewhere.
  2. Fuel: Tinder, burnable material that will allow the spark to catch fire or allow an ember to burn while the ember is being transfer to another fuel source.
  3. Oxygen: All fires must have oxygen. Without oxygen, the ember will not start a fire or the ember will die out. Oxygen for a fire is provided by the air around you. If that is not enough oxygen for the ember to ignite a fire, then you can blow gently on to ember to ignite a fire.

Crafting a fire from an ember is a balancing act. If the embers gets too much of one element or not enough of another element the ember will die and so will your hopes of a fire.
